Types of surveys for buildings

This page will provide you with general information on the type of survey required for your building

Domestic houses

It is not legislation to have an asbestos survey report on a domestic single family dwelling.

However, if you are purchasing or selling a new property and have been issued with a (Home buyers report) that indicates there may be asbestos in the property, it is strongly advised a (Management Survey) is carried out.

Especially if you are purchasing the property, the last thing you need is to encounter an asbestos problem when you have moved in, and have an unexpected additional cost.

If you are planning to have refurbishment works to the property, either building work, new roof, new wiring, plumbing, structural or superficial, you will require by law what is know as a (Refurbishment Survey), if the property is being demolished you will require a (Demolition Survey by law).

Multi occupancy Domestic houses

If you are the landlord of a multi tenanted building, you are required to have a (Management Survey) to the common areas of the building only.

If you are planning to have refurbishment works to the property, either building work, new roof, new wiring, plumbing, structural or superficial, you will require by law what is know as a (Refurbishment Survey), if the property is being demolished you will require a (Demolition Survey by law).

Commercial property IE: Retail shop, Wearhouse, Office Space, or any other type of property that has public access or staff.

If you are the (Duty Holder owner) to any of the buildings mentioned above, you are required to have a (Management Survey) & (Management policy and Register) to all areas of the building by law.

If you are the (Managing agent of a multi tenanted building, you are required to have a (Management survey, Register, and Policy) for the common areas only.
